Paris, Tenn.–At Thursday night’s Paris City Commission meeting, City Finance Director Traci Shannon reported that retail sales tax revenue was up for the fifth consecutive month and six business licenses were issued in September.

Retail sales tax revnue was ahead 5.52 percent for the month of August compared to last August, she said, and it is also up 8.80 percent fiscal year-to-date.

The first quarter of FY 2020 reflected a deficit in our general fund, she said. “We are below budget on expenditures and revenues. However, we did have a few large expenses during the month ofSeptember that included $509K for paving, $26K for the building/property insurance, and $172K for splash pad construction.”

Property tax billing normally is sent out October 1, but there was a delay from the state due to the reassessment year, she said. The state will be mailing out the property tax notices this year for the city. “This is a very cumbersome process which has been done in the past by our finance department. We have found that the fee for the State to process it is very comparable to our expense and will save much needed time,” she said.

Shannon noted the passing of full-time parks maintenance employee Tommy Gallimore.

Six business licenses were issued in September: A&T Bar and Grill, I Know A Guy Home Improvement, Bloom Boutique, One More Pass Outfitters, West TN Sharpshooters Elite Youth Wrestling Club.

New new/new owner: Smartstyle Salon (in Walmart).
