McKenzie, Tenn. – Bethel University Bass Coach Garry Mason posted on social media Tuesday night the inspiring story about one of his Bass Cats proving to be a hero.

Senior Joe McClosky, while walking to the mailbox to put his ballot in the mail to vote, saw smoke coming from his neighbor’s apartment in McKenzie. Running into the apartment without any thought to his own safety, Joe was able to pull a lady from the burning building before the fire trucks arrived.

McKenzie Battalion Chief Jason Arnold stated the bravery of this young man saved the life of his neighbor. Coach Mason stated, “I am not surprised by what Joe did. He is a fine young man and words cannot express how proud we are of him. It is an honor to have him on our team.”

Mason said, “Ironically, Jason Arnold, the Battalion Chief from the McKenzie Fire Department, was on my very first fishing team at Bethel. I’m really proud of both Joe and Jason. They are fine young men.”
