The Henry County Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse has planned their 8th annual fundraiser for Thursday, November 5th and will serve pancakes and sausage from 8:00am to 7:00pm at the First Baptist Church Orr Hall, according to a news release. Tickets are $8 (children under 5 are free) for pre-sale and can be purchased from any board member or from the Center at 204 N. Brewer St. Tickets will be $10 at the door the day of the event. Children 12 and under are $5. This year will feature pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus by Lesli Woods Photography. Pictures will be open from 3:00pm to 7:00pm during the fundraiser. Pictures with Santa will be a $5 donation or included in the purchase of a meal. We will strive to make these pictures special and memorable while being creative to protect the health and safety of those in the pictures.

The Center inherited this fundraiser from the Paris Kiwanis who ran it for the many years to raise money to benefit the community. The Kiwanis Club donated their special pancake griddle and their “secret” recipe to the Center. County Director, Carly Wheat said, “We are excited to continue this yearly tradition in Henry County to raise funds for the many children and families impacted by trauma and abuse. This has been a difficult year due to COVID-19 and we are feeling the impacts of increased abuse. The Center is blessed to be a part of a community that works hard to continue providing child abuse prevention services to our families, especially during this hard hit time. We need the support more now! We hope to continue to expand our work with children and those families affected by abuse by continuing prevention services: Victim Advocacy, Forensic Interviews, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for children and adults, Stewards of Children trainings, and Relative Caregiver Program. All of the services the Center provides are free to survivors and their families. The money raised from the Pancake Fundraiser stays in Henry County to ensure the continuance of those needed services. We hope to have a big turnout as always from the community in supporting a great cause.”

The mission of the Carl Perkins Center is to provide support to families in preventing and dealing with child abuse in West Tennessee and to help both parents and children meet the practical needs of preserving and improving the quality of family life. The overall objective is to break the cycle of abuse now and for future generations thus treating the cause rather than just the symptoms of the problem. We collaborate with many agencies in our community to provide these services including The Henry County Sheriff’s Department, Paris Police Department, Juvenile Court, and Department of Children’s Services.

The Center is excited to continue the pancake tradition of the Pancake Fundraiser. It gets better every year! At the event, we will have ways to sanitize and space everyone out to ensure safety. We will also offer to go orders. Masks are encouraged. We would like to thank our following sponsors: TVCC, Moody Realty, Take Me Back Café, First Bank Mortgage, Carroll Bank & Trust, Commercial Bank, Neese Law Firm, Cowart, Sargent & Reese, BPU, The Neighborhood Clinic, Uncle Billy’s, Michael Sargent State Farm, and The Animal Doctor. Also, many thanks our volunteers and our board members for continuing an impactful fundraiser of Pancakes all to the children of Henry County
