Buchanan, Tenn.–Kentucky Lake will once again host the Bassmaster High School National Championship and the Henry County High School Fishing Team will have two teams competing in the tournament–for the second time.

The BASS Nationals will be held from October 22-24 at Paris Landing State Park.

HCHS Coach Kandi Ellis said Mercedes Ellis and Gage Sherrod will be fishing for the 2nd year in a row and the team of Sawyer Williams and Gage Starks will be competing as well. Ellis and Sherrod are now officially a part of Bethel University Fishing.

One of these teams is hoping to bring home the title to Henry County and be the first Tennessee Team to win this tournament. There are 60 Tennessee teams competing and around 250 plus boats from all across the US competing in this tournament that they earned a slot to.

“Their faith and determination has pushed these four student anglers to the top in Tennessee to be able to compete against teams from across the United States. Super proud of both teams and looking forward to this season getting started,” she said.

Official Practice days are today (Tuesday) and Wednesday from daylight until 5 pm.
Official Tournament days are Thursday and Friday.

Ellis said if the local teams are in the top 12 at the end of the day Friday, they will compete on Saturday for the title.
