Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County School System is taking a literal approach to shining a light on afterschool programs for Lights On Afterschool. They’re partnering with Paris Parks and Recreation to light up the Eiffel Tower landmark in blue and yellow on October 22 to aim the spotlight on how important afterschool programs are to Henry County Schools and their families.
For more than a decade, the Empire State Building has been lighting up New York City skyline in support of afterschool programs everywhere. It’s one of the most iconic Lights On Afterschool traditions.
Henry County Afterschool Coordinator Susan Burton said, “Thanks to Paris Parks and Recreation, Paris and Henry County will be joining the tradition this year as we light up our popular landmark in Eiffel Tower Park. It’s our hope that everyone learns that afterschool programs are an important component to keeping kids safe, inspiring them to learn, and helping working families as we navigate during this school year. The Lights On Afterschool event shines a national spotlight on their importance.”
Kid’s Corner programs at Harrelson, Henry, and Lakewood, as well as Patriot XL programs at Grove and Henry County High School also will be participating in activities and events from October 19-23 that will raise awareness of the significant impact free afterschool programs have in our school communities.
Dave Huber, Patriot XL Director for Henry County High School said, “Our students have been making trail mix in the cooking class and we are planning to create some wood block pumpkins to display in the front of the school. When parents and visitors come by, they’ll see the artwork and remember to support afterschool programs.”
