Stewart County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Scam

phone-scam

Dover, Tenn.–The Stewart County Sheriff’s Office has issued a scam alert for local residents.

People are receiving calls from the Sheriff’s Office number, Social Security Office and IRS telling individuals they need to go to their bank and purchase gift cards and if they don’t there will be severe consequences.

This is called ‘spoofing’, using governmental office and other official phone numbers.

Sheriff Frankie Gray said anyone receiving these calls is to hang up. “Don’t clean out your bank accounts, this is nothing but a SCAM. Government Offices don’t call and ask for money and/or gift cards, again this is a SCAM please hang up.”
