UCMS Softball, Lady Tornado Volleyball Start Week with Wins

An eight-run fifth inning broke open a tight game and lifted the Union City Middle School softball team to an 11-1 victory over Ridgemont Monday afternoon.

Sarah Beth Byars singled, doubled and drove in four runs to lead the Lady Tornadoes, who improved to 6-4 ahead of their final home game of the season today against Hillcrest.

Edie Rodgers had a pair of RBI while Kennedi Robinson, Clare Atwill and Mattie Smith all scored two times apiece for UC.

Addison Carr tossed a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for the Twisters to pick up the pitching win.

Today’s game is set to begin at 5 p.m.

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

UC 3, Gibson Co. 2

The Lady Tornadoes overcame several errors and a 2-1 deficit to beat GC in five games and improve to 11-2.

Union City battled back to win Game 4, 25-16, then took the deciding set 15-12.

Gibson County had won Games 2 and 3, 25-18 and 25-21.

Anna Lynn Cheatham had 20 kills to pace the Lady Twister attack. Marlee Johnson was good for 18 and Kaigan Davis contributed 15 to the winning cause.

UC hosts Trenton today, the jayvee match beginning at 5 with the varsity to follow.
