Cherry Jones Makes History With Latest Emmy Win

Paris Native Cherry Jones won another Emmy Saturday–this one for Best Drama Guest Actress–and in the process she made history. She’s now the only person in the category to win consecutively for two different shows.

Her latest win was for her guest role as Nan Pierce on HBO’s “Succession”. The award was handed out virtually at Saturday’s Creative Arts Ceremony.

Her previous guest role victory was last year for “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Jones beat out co-nominees Cicely Tyson (“How to Get Away with Murder”), Phylicia Rashad (“This Is Us”), Alexis Bledel (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Laverne Cox (“Orange is the New Black”) and Harriet Walter (“Succession”).

Speaking in a pre-recorded acceptance speech during the virtual ceremony, Jones said, “To all the outrageously gifted artists who concoct and make Succession, especially Mr Armstrong, Mr McKay and Mr Rich, thank you for allowing my Pierce cousins and me to come and do battle with your  Roys. It was an artistic high. Thank you.”

It is expected “Succession” will win even more Emmys during tonight’s virtual broadcast on ABC.
