
Union City, Tenn.–At a short session Tuesday evening, the Union City City Council approved a tax abatement program for the addition to the Tyson plant. Tyson is completing its $160M addition and are hiring an additional 600 employees.
Approved was a 100 percent abatement for the first five years; 75 percent for the next five; 50 percent for the five years after that; then 25 percent and onto to zero.
The city also will solicit bids for the added shop space for the Turf building and solicit bids for a pickup truck for the Parks and Recreation Department.
In other business:
–Council passed on second and final reading the rezoning of property on Sherwood Drive, from Planned Industrial to Intermediate Business. It will be used for RV Storage.
–Also passed on second and final reading rezoning at the corner of Section Line and Tyson Road from Residential to Planned Industrial.
