Union City, Tenn.–The Union City High School girls golf team finally faced some competition on Monday.

It went well for the Lady Tornadoes.

UC won a four-team match with Gibson County, Greenfield and Gleason at the Weakley County Country Club, claiming first place in a close competition in which the teams were separated by just 11 strokes.

The Lady Tornadoes shot 109, with freshman Mimi Jenkins matching Gleason’s Zanda Tipton for medalist honors with a 52. Olivia Tanner shot 57 for the Purple and Gold, while Molly Kizer came in with a 59.

Gleason was runner-up with a 116, followed by Gibson County (119) and Greenfield (120).

It marked the first time this season that Union City had faced a legitimate foe as the Lady Twisters have competed mainly among themselves with few teams in the area having a complete team.

The UC boys were also winners in a four-team match, besting Westview, Gibson County and South Fulton.

Led by medalist Carter Walton (40), the Tornadoes shot a 174 to top Westview (183), GC (189) and SF (207).

Nolan Chandler fired a 44, both Reese Paschall and Mason Reed came in with 45s and Gabriel Qualls shot 47 for the Twisters, who improved to 7-1 as a team.

Union City is scheduled to play at Milan today at 4.
