Union City Property Tax Rate To Stay Same

Union City, Tenn.–Union City residents will be paying the same property tax rate as they did last year.

At its regular meeting Tuesday night, the Union City City Council approved the tax rate of 2.12 on second and final reading.

Council also approved the annual appropriations ordinance on second and final reading for Fiscal 2020-2021. It totals $44.4 M, which includes appropriations for the board of education.

The Council voted to rezone property on Sherwood Drive from Planned Industrial to Intermediate Business. A request was made for an RV storage facility next to Excel Boats (old Vanity Fare Building).

Also property at the corner of Section Line and Tyson Road at the Stop Light was rezoned from residential to Planned Industrial. Three mini-storage facilities will be constructed there.

A change order on the Greenfield Drive Bridge project was approved and will cost the city $34,648. Some springs were discovered when work was begun causing the city to have to bring in fill material. The state is paying $500,000 on this project, with the city paying a 10% match.
