Union City, Tenn.–Tuesday was a good day for all Union City fall sports teams.
Both the UCHS volleyball team and the UC Middle School softball squad were winners in their respective season openers, while the Tornado golfers beat South Fulton for the third time in as many meetings this year at the Fulton Country Club.
In volleyball, the Lady Twisters topped Martin 25-9, 25-21 and 25-15 in the varsity match. Union City won in jayvee play, too, 25-19 and 25-13.
A six-run first inning propelled the Middle School softball team to a 13-6 triumph at Hillcrest.
And the Tornado golfers were 25 strokes better than SF in a match that also included three individual players from Trenton.
The following is a recap of Tuesday’s results.
VOLLEYBALL
UC 3, Westview 0
Kaigen Davis (15 points) and Raegan Taylor (13) had strong service games for Union City.
At the net, the victors got 10 kills apiece from both Abby Suiter and Anna Cheatham.
Emma Parks and Bayleigh Long had strong outings in the Tornadoes’ jayvee triumph.
UC will play at Obion Central Thursday, the jayvee contest beginning at 5 p.m., with the varsity to follow.
GOLF
UC tops Devils again
Carter Walton continued his steady play for the Purple and Gold, posting a 41 for the best individual score of the match.
Reese Paschall shot 44, Nolan Chandler came in with a 47, and both Mason Reed and Gabriel Qualls finished with 50s to complete the winning UC team total.
Mimi Jenkins had a good day, shooting a team-best 50 for the Lady Tornadoes. Molly Kizer shot 61 and Bailey Nichols came in with a 63. Anne Taylor Elliot shot 57 for Trenton as the only opposing competitor.
Union City is set to host Milan at Poplar Meadows Country Club Thursday.
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL
UC 13, Hillcrest 6
After having their season opener postponed on three different occasions, the Lady Twisters finally started their year with a bang.
Sara Beth Byars drove in three runs, scored three times and had two hits, while Alli Kate Frilling doubled twice, went 3-for-5 and had three ribbies to pace Union City.
Kennedi Robinson had two hits, scored two runs and drove home two, while both Claire Atwill and Madie Theobald each scored two runs.
Frilling was the winning pitcher, striking out nine while going the distance in the six-inning game.
UC will play its first home game on Thursday, against Martin, at 5 p.m.
