Cairo, Ill.–The contractor has been making good progress on maintenance and upgrades to the Kentucky approach levee. The contractor has lost several days to rain. However, crews have stepped up efforts to make up for it on days that they have been able to work.
As about the halfway point, work is on schedule. The prospect of cooler temps and dryer weather next week provides an opportunity to maintain a high level of productivity.
The day we visited the worksite, an early morning thunderstorm had forced a halt to work. However, surveying and other prep work aimed at keeping the project moving once weather improves continue as weather allowed. Since our visit, the contractor completed another concrete pour to advance the project.
Please see the video/photo compilation on the KYTC District 1 Facebook page to get a look at the progress.
The project continues on track for the bridge to reopen to one-lane traffic around August 31 as anticipated.
Thanks to everyone for your patience during the closure of the bridge for this important maintenance project.
