McKenzie, Tenn.–The McKenzie Special School District has announced it is temporarily transitioning to distance learning due to the COVID-19 virus, beginning Friday, August 14.
In a notice posted on the district website, Director of Schools Lynn Watkins said, “Due to a rise in COVID-19, McKenzie Special School District will transition to distance learning Friday, August 14, 2020. It is not so much the number of cases but the number of students that are required to quarantine that has made our situation unmanageable. Face to face instruction will resume at McKenzie Special School District on Monday, August 31, 2020. We will monitor the number of cases locally and in our area. If needed we will extend the closure.”
Watkins said, “McKenzie Elementary and McKenzie Middle School have at this point only had one positive case each. However, as our students share buses, have siblings, and interact outside of school I believe it most safe to transition at this point.
“Your child will receive instructions from their school in regards to their distance learning plan and procedures.”
