Details Released On Chase Resulting In Shots Fired

Martin, Tenn.–More details have been released on Thursday’s chase that began in Kentucky and ended in Martin and resulted in multiple law enforcement agencies surrounding the suspect. The suspect was airlifted from the scene with reportedly self-inflicted wounds.

According to the Martin Police Department. on August 6, 2020 at approximately 11:50 am, several law enforcement agencies from Kentucky pursued a subject into the city limits of Martin and that pursuit ended in a vehicle crash and shots being fired.

The final part of the incident occurred on the entry ramp to 22 by-pass located on the north end of Martin at the Weakley Nissan/Ford dealership.  The pursuit was initiated in reference to the driver being wanted in Fulton County, Illinois for Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer.

The crash and other aspects of this incident are being investigated by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.  The Martin Police Department was not involved in the pursuit or any portion of this incident.  However, M.P.D. did provide traffic assistance and scene security during the THP investigation.  The driver/suspect was airlifted from the scene and transported to be treated for self-inflicted wounds.

The THP has not released a report on the incident.
