McKenzie, Tenn.–With school opening this week, a McKenzie High School student has tested positive for COVID-19.

The student reportedly attended the first day of school Tuesday, which was a half-day, but was sent home upon arrival Wednesday morning when he presented with a fever. The student received positive test results later Wednesday.

According to the McKenzie Banner, students who had attended class with the student were sent home Wednesday with a letter informing parents of the situation.

The letter has been shared multiple times on social media.

The letter informs parents that a student in one of their child’s classes had tested positive for COVID-19. If the letter identified the student as being exposed (in proximity of six feet for ten minutes or longer, according to the CDC), the school instructs the student to quarantine for 14 days.

According to the Banner, several students were reportedly exposed and many more were determined to be not exposed.
