hc-sheriff-3

Paris, Tenn.–Family members, including a man on oxygen, were helped from their home when a lightning strike started a fire.

Sheriff’s Cpl. Gary Carroll responded to the call of a fire at the David Jones residence at 3180 Old McKenzie Highway at 6:45 p.m.

Lightning struck the shed, which is located near the room in which the man on oxygen was and he could not get up. Carroll found the shed engulfed in flames, ran inside the home and evacuated two boys and a woman. He then ran back inside to the room where the man was located and found fire coming through the window. He pulled the man to the front door, where firefighters took him to an ambulance that had arrived on site.

The Henry Volunteer Fire Department and Paris Fire Department responded to the fire, which caused smoke damage to one side of the house.
