
Update from Athletic Director Mike Poteete: Henry County Schools athletics will be suspended for the rest of this week and next week, at which point local officials will evaluate based on further guidance from Governor Bill Lee and the TSSAA.
Paris, Tenn.–Henry County Schools Athletic Director Mike Poteete has announced that district sports will be suspended for the rest of this week and next week, at which point officials will evaluate based on further guidance from Governor Bill Lee and the TSSAA.
Poteete said Thursday morning when the county school board voted to delay school opening until August 31, “that caused us to reevaluated what we were doing with our sports programs.”
The decision was made to suspend all sports activities until further notice. “That includes all practices for in-season sports, which would include football, volleyball, girls’ soccer, cross country and golf. All of that is shut down. And all non-season sports, such as basketball and spring sports–all those activities are shut down, too.”
District coaches, he said, “understand the situation we’re in right now. It’s an ongoing situation that we’ll be reevaluating as we go along.”
Poteete said there is no date set for when althletes can resume practices.
