Walgreens, Lowe’s, CVS & More Join Retailers Requiring Masks

walgreen

Walgreens, Lowe’s, Home Depot, CVS, and Target have joined the growing list of national retailers which will be requiring customers to wear masks, starting next week.

The companies announced the new policies after similar mandates by a growing number of retailers acting as the COVID-19 pandemic continues and in many areas, as COVID-19 cases increase.

Lowe’s announced it will begin requiring all customers to wear masks or face coverings in all U.S. stores effective July 20. According to the news release from Lowe’s, the retailer will also offer free masks at the customer service desk of every store for customers who need them.

Walgreens will join the dozens of retailers requiring customers to wear a mask or face covering before entering its store.

Walgreens’ mask requirement also takes effect Monday, July 20. Walgreens Chief Medical Officer Kevin Ban said in a news release, “We know that face covers can play a vital role in helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As cases continue to rise in many parts of the country, it’s critical we, as businesses and members of the community, do everything we can to support recommendations of health officials, both locally and nationally.”

CVS Chief Operating Officer Jon Roberts said in a news release the new requirement comes after “encouraging” customers to cover up.

“With the recent spike in COVID-19 infections, we’re joining others in taking the next step and requiring all customers to wear face coverings when entering any of our stores throughout the country effective Monday, July 20,” Roberts said.

“To be clear, we’re not asking our store employees to play the role of enforcer. What we are asking is that customers help protect themselves and those around them by listening to the experts and heeding the call to wear a face covering,” he said.

The latest retailers follow Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Kroger’s which earlier announced their stores would be requiring masks starting next week.

Meanwhile, Dollar Tree reversed its policy on July 8 to require all associates, vendors, and customers to wear cloth face coverings in its stores. … While associates and vendors are still required to wear masks, Dollar Tree now “requests” customers wear them.
