Newbern, Tenn.–Major damage was caused to the Newbern Train Depot Museum Tuesday when a northbound train struck a semi that was stuck on a crossing in downtown Newbern. The Train Depot Museum and Amtrak Station is located in Newbern in Dyer Co.
After clean-up yesterday, the Amtrak waiting room will be open tonight. Amtrak boarding will not take place out of the trackside doors, but at the Jefferson Street crossing, on the south side of the building.
Major damage was mostly to the depot center museum room. According to officials at the museum, the truck driver did clear the track before the train struck and there were no injuries.
Other damage was to the Amtrak waiting room and crews spent the day cleaning it so it could be utilized tonight.
