Jackson, Tenn.–The Jackson-Madison County Health Department is mandating the wearing of face masks in all businesses in the county.
The mandate begins at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 4.
Children under age 2 do not have to wear a face covering. Churches are also exempt. Violation of the order is a misdemeanor offense.
The Health Department posted a copy of the order on its Facebook page and asked the public to read it. Call the county’s #COVID19 hotline at 731-240-1771 if you have questions.
“It’s my job as the public health director, is to protect our community. The community as a whole is the health department’s patient per se,” Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department Director Kim Tedford said.
The order is supported by both Jackson Mayor Scott Conger and Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris.
Anyone doing business or shopping in Jackson or Madison County will begin seeing these posters on doors and windows of businesses. Anyone not wearing a face covering will be asked to leave.
Last week, Metro Nashville issued a face mask requirement for Nashville and Davidson County.
