Union City, Tenn.–Union City Director of Schools Wes Kennedy and the UC Elementary School PTO are teaming up to give parents of UCES students a huge hand with start-of-the-year school expenses.

With many families facing financial burdens due to the circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, Kennedy and the school support group have pledged to provide all school supplies except for backpacks to every UCES student for the 2020-21 school year.

The kind gesture will undoubtedly be a welcome one for many parents who have met with hardships while attempting to make ends meet amid global financial uncertainty in the aftermath of the coronavirus outbreak.

“We understand the hardships that many families are facing as they prepare to send their kids back to school,” Kennedy said. “We hope this gives them one less thing to worry about.”

Among the items to be provided to students will be pencils, markers, crayons, glue sticks, scissors, paper, notebooks and binders. Also included on the list are several sanitizing and cleaning products, along with wipes and tissues.

UCES Principal David Byars expressed his appreciation to both Kennedy and the PTO, echoing his boss’s sentiments.

“What a wonderful gesture and one that will certainly help out many of our students and their parents who might’ve struggled otherwise,” Byars said. “Mr. Kennedy has always gone the extra mile for all Union City Schools students, and I’m so thankful for our PTO and their desire to help out in this time that is so challenging for so many people on so many levels.

“There truly is no place like Union City Schools.”

Union City Middle School will announce its supply list for the 2020-21 school year later this week.

The first day for traditional-style classes for Union City School System students is set for Aug. 10.
