Paris, Tenn.–Simone Travis of Paris displays the t-shirts that were available at today’s first Juneteenth Festival at Ogburn Park in Paris. The afternoon was filled with speakers, food and vendors and voter registration sign-ups. Paris BPU supplied its hydration station and a large ice chest from Home City Ice which was used to cool everyone off and to make snow cones for the kids. Organizer James Benau said the event is to celebrate Juneteenth, also known as “Freedom Day”, and is a day to commemorate African-American freedom, education and achievements.
