
Union City, Tenn.–Magnolia Place Assisted Living has reported two positive cases of COVID-19. Magnolia Place officials said the two cases are staff members and at this time, no residents are exhibiting any signs of the virus.
Magnolia Place residents and staff were tested for COVID-19 on June 1, 2020 by the Obion County Health Department. All of those results were negative.
According to the press release issued by Magnolia Place, “We were notified on June 8, 2020 that a staff member’s husband was having some symptoms on June 6, 2020. They sought medical help on June 8, 2020 and it was determined by medical personnel that the COVID-19 test was not needed. On June 9, 2020, the staff’s family sought further medical assistance and was tested for COVID-19 and it came back positive on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. It was later revealed that another staff member had contact with the families of the person testing “Positive”. Both staff members last day at work was June 9, 2020.”
Magnolia Place will exercise the following options in order to ensure that further outbreaks do not happen:
Any staff that tests positive for COVID-19 will be furloughed 14 days from the day of exposure and must be retested negative at the end of the furloughed period before being allowed to return to work. Magnolia Place will begin weekly staff testing for all staff members.
At this time and press release, Magnolia Place does not have any residents that are experiencing symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19. However, Magnolia Place has reserves of isolation gowns, gloves, face shields and N95 masks on hand and are ready to care for the needs of any resident that tests positive for COVID-19.
In advance of need, Magnolia Place has already identified isolation rooms and procedures for caring for those residents.
Temperatures and protocols are taken before each staff member starts to work.
Temperatures of all residents are taken on the day and afternoon shift.
Dietary staff has stockpiled necessary supplies to transport meals and fluids to each room safely and without cross contamination.
Magnolia Place has secured the services of Integrity Laboratories for weekly testing of the staff of Magnolia Place.
According to the press release, “Magnolia Place has exercised good health practices by wearing our Personal Protective Equipment since March 12, 2020.”
“Magnolia Place has the resources to stop this virus before spreading to our residents and remaining staff. We have procured all the necessary equipment to keep everyone as safe as possible. The well-being of our residents and staff are our highest priority,” according to David L. Johnson, Administrator of Magnolia Place.
The Tennessee Department of Health has been notified of these results.
Earlier this month, 14 residents and staff members at The Etheridge House In Union City tested poisitive.
