Paris, Tenn.–Colby Prosser is one of eighteen teachers selected for the University of Tennessee at Martin’s WestTeach Class of 2020,  a five-day development program for teachers in the 21 counties of West Tennessee. Prosser is a 6th grade teacher with the Henry County School System at Harrelson Elementary School in Puryear.

Prosser was encouraged by her principal Maria Cox to apply and was recommended by her Director of Schools Dr. Leah Watkins because of her leadership achievements and potential to contribute to the region’s educational system. Applications are reviewed and selected by the WestTeach Leadership Steering Committee.

Prosser is looking forward  to the experience to build leadership skills for success in and outside the classroom.  The goal of WestTeach is to help teachers gain insight into the economic needs and opportunities in West Tennessee, build links with industry and community leaders and get an out-of-the-classroom view of students’ lives from community child resource agents.

Prosser will attend five programs in the fall, including West Tennessee Agriculture in  Martin; Entrepreneurship in West Tennessee in Union City; The Humanity of Leadership in Jackson; Education: Creating Partnership for Economic Development in Dyersburg; and  Industry Tours / Building Communities in Brownsville.

Sponsors include Alexander, Thompson & Arnold, LLC; Security Bank, Dyersburg | SIC Management; TRANE Company, Tennessee District; and the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation
