Union City, Tenn.–When Discovery Park of America reopens its outdoor heritage park on June 1, all guests are encouraged to fish in one of the two man-made lakes. You can either bring your own gear or purchase an inexpensive children’s rod and reel and some freeze-dried bait at the Hugh Wade Feed Store or the Casey Jones Gift Shop at the Train Depot.
There’s a whole world to explore throughout the 50-acres at Discovery Park. Included are two man-made lakes connected by a waterway that flows along waterfalls and bridges through our beautifully landscaped grounds.
The South Lake features the Final Flight wetlands, an area inspired by the shallow waters of Reelfoot Lake, while the North Lake is centered between the Settlement and Mill Ridge. Both are stocked with a variety of species of fish.

GUIDELINES FOR FISHING AT DISCOVERY PARK
Discovery Park follows the fishing license guidelines of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency
- Currently, you may catch and release or keep the fish you catch at Discovery Park
- No fishing license is needed for residents or nonresidents of Tennessee if you are 13 years of age or younger
- Residents of Tennessee with a valid driver’s license who are 13 years and older can purchase a one-day license online for $6.50
- Nonresidents of Tennessee who are ages 14 to 16 can purchase a one-day license online for $11
- Nonresidents of Tennessee who are ages 17 and older can purchase a three-day license online for $20.50 (No single-day license is available for nonresidents of Tennessee who are 17 and older)
- Fishing is not allowed at the Koi Pond in the Japanese Garden
Free Fishing Day is always the Saturday of the first full week in June. Anyone (resident or non-resident) of any age can fish free without a license.
Free Fishing Week always follows Free Fishing Day in June. Children, ages 15 and younger can fish for free all week.
Fishing licenses are also available at the Union City Walmart, located just minutes away.
