Martin, Tenn.–A Martin man who barricaded himself in a home after a domestic assault was arrested unharmed after the Special Response Team forced entry.

James Thomas Jr., age 45, was charged with aggravated criminal trespass, domestic assault and resisting arrest.

On May 13, 2020 at approximately 6:25 pm, officers of the Martin Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident at 105 Palace St.

Chief Don Teal said upon arrival, they were advised that Thomas had assaulted a female at the location and then barricaded himself in the bathroom.  Officers were given information at the scene that he may possibly have a gun and that he had threatened to harm himself.

The Police Special Response Team came to the location and attempted to talk Thomas into coming out of the residence for over two hours.  After these attempts failed, the SRT team made a forced entry into the residence and apprehended Thomas without injury to he or members of the team.  He was transported to the Weakley Co. Sheriff’s Office.
