Paris, Tenn.–Celebrating birthdays, weddings, showers and other milestones can be difficult during this age of the COVID-19 virus, but for some people, where there’s a will there is a way.
The family and friends of Waynie Puckett thought of a way to celebrate her 96th birthday Monday–while still practicing safe social distancing practices. A parade of some 30 cars filled with family, friends and church members drove past her home on Garland Avenue in Paris while she watched from the porch.
Stacey Sain, whose grandmother was a sister to Waynie’s mother, said, “It did her heart some good. I’ve been shopping for her throughout this pandemic and she needed something like this to keep her spirits up.”
She also said the parade’s organizers were able to keep it a surprise. “She was very happy and surprised because you can never plan anything for her and she not find out about it.”
The parade was led by Deputy Rodney Littleton in a sheriff’s office patrol car.
