TRENTON, Tenn. – To safeguard against COVID-19, and the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus, Gibson Electric Membership Corporation has made the decision to cancel its Annual Members’ Meeting previously scheduled for March 26, 2020 at Obion County Central High School in Troy.
According to a press release, two factors played into this decision:
“The safety and well-being of our consumer-members is our ultimate priority. We do not want to place our members at risk unnecessarily. We will provide our 2019 annual report to members through the April 2020 issues of The Tennessee Magazine and Kentucky Living magazine. We already have posted the 2019 annual report to gibsonemc.com/member-communications. Copies of the annual report also will be available in all of our member service centers on and after April 1 of this year.
Electric co-op employees are stewards of critical infrastructure. Spread of the illness among Gibson EMC’s employees represents a real threat to the communities we serve. We have a heightened responsibility to protect the health and well-being of our workforce.
Tennessee Gov. Lee and Kentucky Gov. Beshear have declared a state of emergency in their respective states to address the spread of coronavirus or COVID-19. Cancelling Gibson EMC’s 2020 Annual Members’ Meeting is a proactive step to help limit the spread of the virus.
“I sincerely hope we can look back on this as an unnecessary precaution,” said Gibson EMC President and CEO Dan Rodamaker, “but our utmost responsibility is the safety of our members and employees.”
