Murray Schools To Close

murray-sch

Upon the recommendation of Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, Murray Independent Schools will be closed starting Monday, March 16-March 29. Although COVID-19 has not yet been found here, the measure is deemed necessary to slow or stop the virus’ spread into our community.
In order to address the coronavirus concerns, MISD Superintendent Coy Samons, and the MISD Central Office staff, filed a “Temporary EMERGENCY Application” for the Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) Program to the Kentucky Department of Education.
The MISD Board approved the Temporary Emergency Non-Traditional Instruction Program (NTI) Application submitted to KDE during tonight’s (Thursday, March 12) board meeting.
Samons said in the event of school closures, the MISD district staff is confident this is the best way to provide educational and nutritional services to families of the Murray Independent School District Staff. “We will continue to work with the Kentucky Department of Education, the Kentucky Health Department, local health-care leaders, and other state officials to bring you the most up-to-date information as it relates to you on both a professional and personal level. Thank you for your dedication and patience as we share this difficult time together.”
Samons echoes the sentiments of Kevin Brown, KDE interim commissioner, and urges the community to remain calm and cooperative.
More information will follow on Friday, but right now, we ask parents to help us with these important items:
– Kids’ Company will be closed, also starting Monday. We are sorry, but childcare will be unavailable through the school district. If you have younger children, please check into other daycare options as soon as possible.
– During this closure, all extracurricular activities, including practices, will be suspended, and no community meetings will be held on our campus. Again, more information will follow soon, including about length of closure, staff work days, a student-feeding program, and a new non-traditional instruction plan to help keep students from falling behind. Let’s all be patient with each other, as we all begin this uncharted journey together. #murrayschools
