It was a huge night for former Vice-President Joe Biden nationally and also in our area.

Biden was the top vote getter in our area, overwhelmingly topping the ballots in Henry, Obion, Benton, and Weakley Counties in the Democratic Presidential Primary on Super Tuesday.

Across the board, voter turnout was lower than previous primaries.

In Henry County, Biden led with 768 votes or nearly 45 percent of the votes, followed by Michael Bloomberg at 361, and Bernie Sanders at 329. Elizabeth Warren came in fourth with 111 votes.

In Obion County, Biden led with 580 votes, or nearly 54 percent, followed by Bernie Sanders with 202, Bloomberg with 145 and Warren with 54.

In Benton County, Biden received 402 votes, followed by Sanders with 160, Bloomberg with 129 and Warren at 41.

In Weakley County, Biden received 624, followed by Sanders with 323, Bloomberg 192, and Warren 138.

On the Republican side of the ledger, President Trump received 85 percent of the vote or 2,345 in Henry County; 99.16 percent or 2,118 in Obion County; 1,900 votes in Weakley Co. and 1,083 in Benton Co.

There were very few local races. In Henry County James Benau won his race for 4th District Road Commissioner with 130 votes.

In Benton County, Assessor of Property Lynne Cagle ran unopposed on the Democratic ballot and received 511 votes. No one qualified to run for that position on the Republican ballot, but Mike Holladay of Camden received seven write-in votes. In August, three candidates will appear on the ballot: Democrat Cagle, Republican Holladay and Incumbent Ryan Hall.
