Buchanan, Tenn.–A chimney fire was extinguished Thursday night in Buchanan without damage to the residence.

Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department Chief Reggie Coles said the department and Henry County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at 9:30 pm to 9642 Highway 79 North on a report of a chimney fire.

Arriving units found heavy smoke and flames coming from the chimney. Owner Jason Parker said they had gone to bed and were awakened by their smoke alarms.  When he came downstairs he found heavy smoke filling the living room from the fireplace.  The fire was extinguished with no damage to the residence.

Coles said a buildup of creosote is the suspected cause.  Four trucks and 10 personnel were on the scene for 30 minutes.

Paris Landing Fire Department would like to remind everyone to have their chimneys cleaned and inspected before use.  And to always test your smoke alarms monthly.
