Paris, Tenn.–Congressman David Kustoff (R-TN8th District) had the economy on his mind when he appeared at Thursday’s Legislative Update at the Paris-Henry County Chamber of Commerce.
Kustoff pointed out that over the last year the economy has improved with almost a 29% return on investments. People are seeing wages rise, he said, and one real significant reason in his view are the tax cuts and Job Act passed in 2017. Kustoff said it allowed businesses to give back to families.
According to Kustoff, Tennessee families have additional $2000 dollars a year. Enactment of opportunity zones allows 176 areas in Tennessee to see investments that have led to community improvements, he said.
Kustoff said something else that has helped the economy are efforts of President Trump and the U.S. North American Canada trade agreement which he said is going to be a huge boost for the economy.
When speaking of tariffs with China, Kustoff said, “President Trump had to change a lot of minds including mine.” We’re starting to see manufacturing leave China and go to other countries even our own. Long term shifts in manufacturing is very, very good. I’m looking forward to a tax cut “2.0” that will keep the economy continuing to grow.
