Paris, Tenn.-A Paris man was charged with theft of a gun and possession of a gun by a convicted felon during a traffic stop Sunday.

Christopher Barcio, age 36 of Old Paris-Murray Road, was arrested by Paris Patrolman Ashley Neumair.

According to the report, the vehicle he was driving was operating recklessly on Mineral Wells Ave., causing the vehicle in front of Officer Neumair to hit their brakes.

A records check of Barcio’s license came back valid but with a restriction of an alcohol interlock device. Barcio said the vehicle belonged to a friend and it did not have an interlock device inside of it.

Consent was asked to search the vehicle and denied because the vehicle did not belong to him.

Sgt Jamie James arrived with his K9 Drago who alerted to the area of the front driver’s door. A search of the vehicle was then conducted and Patrolman Andrews located a Glock 19 9mm handgun with 15 rounds in the magazine inside of the glove box.

Barcio is a convicted felong and the gun was listed as stolen out of Stewart County in November 2019. Barcio was placed under arrest for Failure to Comply with Ignition Interlock Device, Unlawful Possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and Possession of Stolen Property. Bond was set at $7,500.
