Paris, Tenn.—Henry County High School Anglers Mercedes Ellis and Gage Sherrod have been invited to participate in the coming Bassmaster High School Classic Tournament based on their performance during the 2019 season and their 2nd place finish at Nationals.

This is in conjunction with the Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic in Birmingham, Ala. The high school teams—some 10-12 teams—will be fishing Lay Lake Saturday, March 7 and weigh in on the big stage that afternoon in Birmingham.

Ellis and Sherrod are in second place in the West Tennessee Region standings (two points out of first place) going into the Spring tournaments.

Coach Kandi Ellis said when they return from Alabama, they will be traveling to Pickwick with their teammates to fish March 14.

When they finish up their season this year with HCHS, both will be attending Bethel University where they will be members of the elite Bethel Bass Cats fishing team.

Ellis said Gage Starks and Sawyer Williams are sitting in 15th place currently. They have been traveling and competing in the tournament opens, too. They will be fishing Nickajack on February 22 and Smith Lake March 1. They are sitting in 5th place after three tournaments in the TBN State High School Points Race, she said.
