Union City, Tenn.—A Union City man was arrested on a long list of charges after he was found asleep in the parking lot of a convenience store late Monday night.
Charles Richard Dillon, age 24, of 718 Lilac, was charged with DUI, possession of a firearm under the influence, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, open container and assault by the Union City Police.
Officers were called to Huck’s on S. First St. on a report of someone asleep in their vehicle for some two hours. When Officer Kayla Laster approved the vehicle, she recognized it as belonging to Dillon, who tried to put the vehicle in drive when she knocked on the window.
According to the police report, Dillon would not get out of vehicle and said he was just trying to get gas and go home. She detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and saw an open container of beer in the cup holder and a rolled cigar with what appeared to be marijuana inside it between Dillon’s legs in the driver’s seat.
Dillon denied using alcohol or marijuana and when Officer Laster asked for his license, he asked for the rolled marijuana cigar back so he could throw it away himself. Officer Laster told him she would take care of it.
While talking to dispatch, Officer Laster saw Dillon place something in the radio of his vehicle and saw him try to throw items away. According to the report, Dillon did not follow instructions when Laster asked to see what he was throwing away. Dillon made a quick movement, struck the officer’s arm and knocked the license and rolled cigar out of her hand.
As Officer Laster hooked the handcuff on his wrist, Dillon jerked out of it and got back of his vehicle before she was able to subdue him, according to the report.
When Officer Laster looked behind the radio, she found a 9MM SAR Arms pistol with the magazine behind the driver’s seat on a blanket. There were 13 bullets in the magazine, plus another 50 9MM bullets also found in the vehicle.
