Obion County’s own Larrabee Kirkland is fighting ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Several of her friends, under Pam Smith’s and Amy Montgomery’s direction, are organizing a Walk to Defeat ALS Fundraiser to be held at Discovery Park on Saturday, February 22 from 10 AM through 12 PM. Plans are for this to be a fun family event and if there is inclement weather that day, the event will be moved indoors.
Funds raised will be sent to the Tennessee Chapter of the ALS Association and not the national organization. Our local organizers will give direction to the Tennessee Chapter as to whether the funds go to patients and their families or to research for a cure.
Discovery Park will be allowing every fundraiser participant, who preregisters, free admission to Discovery Park on the day of the event. The organizers are asking you to go online in advance and sign up as a participant and/or as part of a team at
http://web.alsa.org/WalkALSUnionCity.
The entry fee will be whatever you feel led to donate. There will be different levels of corporate sponsorship available: The Gold level being $1000 and above, Silver level being $500 to $999, and Bronze being $250 to $499. Checks can also be written to Tennessee Chapter of ALS.
