Huntingdon, Tenn.–Mudslingers Pottery Studio and The Dixie Carter Performing Arts and Academic Enrichment Center are once again hosting opportunities to experience the hands-on basics of pottery under the tutelage of accomplished artist and instructor Candace Gooch-Ward beginning Tuesday, February 4.
Both adult and children sessions are offered this season. Classes will be held on Tuesday evenings at Mudslingers Pottery Studio starting February 4 through March 10, 2020. Children’s classes for Grades 2nd – 4th are from 3:30-4:30 pm; Grades 5th – 8th are from 4:45 – 5:45 pm. Adult classes are scheduled from 6:00 – 8:30 pm.
Pricing for adult sessions is $170 per student per session with the opportunity to display their work in an exhibit Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at 6:00 pm at Mudslingers Studio. Children’s sessions are $120 per student per session with the opportunity to exhibit at Mudslingers Studio on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at 5:30 pm.
Classes are limited to 10 students per class and will focus on the basic pottery skills of pinching, coil building, slab construction, and throwing on the potter’s wheel. Students will also be introduced to glazing and firing processes.
These unique classes are sponsored in part by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission for the purpose of offering the residents of Tennessee access to and opportunities to participate in the arts.
Instructor Candace Gooch-Ward is a graduate of Union University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, Ceramics and Sculpture. Candace interned at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in East Tennessee during college. She is a Carroll County native and Clarksburg High School alumni. In addition to instructing at Mudslingers, Candace is the Art Department Secretary at Union University and continues to create in her personal studio in Jackson, TN.
