Memorial Services Set For Former Stewart Co. Sheriff David Hicks

Dover, Tenn.–Memorial Services have been set for former Stewart County Sheriff David Hicks, who served from 1978 to 1996. He also was director of the 23rd Judicial Drug Task Force and Investigator for the District from 1996-2016. He retired after 38 years of public service.
At 28, he was the youngest sheriff elected in Stewart County at the time of his election
An escort of his body was held Thursday morning on Highway 79 then Highway 49 to Taylor Funeral Home in Dickson.

Hicks, age 69, of Dover, TN died Thursday, January 2, 2020 at his home with family by his side.
He was born in Stewart County, son of the late Reva Jewel Hicks Gray and was the step-son of the late Thornton Gray. He was the grandson of the late Charlie and Lucy Hicks.  He attended and graduated from Stewart County High School and later graduated from Austin Peay State University.
He also taught criminal justice at Austin Peay State University.  He was a member of the Dover Masonic Lodge #544.
Survivors include his wife; Sarah Hicks, his daughter; Katrena Pulley and her husband Travis, his brothers; Andy Hicks (Brenda), Craig Bagby, Frankie Gray (Melissa), Billy Gray (Kelly), George Gray (Anita) and Fritz Gray (Karon), his sisters; Leta Joiner (Joey) and Gayla Grise (Keith), his grandsons; Nathan Pulley, Matthew Pulley, Axle and Wyatt Shaw and Hunter Smith, his granddaughters; Hannah Pulley, Nicole, Ally and Molly Smith and River Meeks, his step children; Kati Smith (Ryan)  Lindsey Hartsfield (Eric Meeks), Robert Shaw (Brittney)  and Mitchell Shaw, his aunts; Barbara Bruton (Charles) and Loretta Odom (Junior). Several nieces and nephews and friends.
A celebration of life public visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Stewart County Visitors Center in Dover.  There will be a private memorial service on Saturday, January 25th.
Those desiring, memorials are suggested to the Wives of Stewart County Law Enforcement, c/o Leslie Bickford, P.O. Box 69, 314 Cedar Street, Dover, TN 37058, The American Cancer Society , Tennessee Sheriffs Association or to the Sheriff David Hicks College Fund for students persuing a Criminal Justice degree at any Farmers and Merchants Bank.
