Union City, Tenn.–Clearwater (Fla.) handed the Union City boys a lopsided 73-41 loss in the opening round of the Wayne Gandy Holiday Tournament in Haines City, Fla., Thursday evening.
The Tornadoes (8-4) were outscored 27-6 in the third quarter after trailing just 28-22 at halftime.
UC managed but 19 points the entire second half.
Ben McMillan was the lone Union City player to score in double figures, tallying 20 points. Kaler Bobo was next on the Twister scoring list with seven.
The Tornadoes are back in action today in the tourney at 4:30 p.m. and will play again – win or lose today – on Saturday.
The Union City girls begin play today in the Farmer’s Bank Classic in Bowling Green, Ky., facing Owensboro Catholic at 3 p.m.
