Cottage Grove, Tenn.–A Mayfield woman was killed and a passenger airlifted to Vanderbilt following a two-car head-on collision Thursday on Hwy. 69N near Walker Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
Jammie L. Mills, age 41, was pronounced dead at Henry County Medical Center. An unnamed passenger in her vehicle was airlifted from the scene.
A couple from Cottage Grove, John P. Jasper, age 71, and Debra Jasper, age 64, were in the other vehicle involved in the collision. Driver John Jasper received medical attention at the scene.
According to the report released Friday morning by Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Brad Wilbanks, Mills was northbound in a 2010 Ford Ranger on Hwy. 69 and the 2014 Ford Escape driven by Jasper was southbound.
Mills attempted to negotiate the right hand curve and crossed completely into the ongoing lane. Both vehicles met in the curve and struck head-on in the southbound lane. Mills’ vehicle exited the western edge of the roadway after the collision and rolled and the driver was ejected.
Jasper’s vehicle came to rest facing west partially in the northbound lane.
The report indicates that Mills was not wearing a seatbelt and the Jasper couple were both wearing their seatbelts.
The accident is still under investigation by the THP.
