Deadline Nears For Paris Christmas Parade Coloring Contest

Paris, Tenn.–The deadline is approaching for the annual coloring contest to celebrate the 13th Annual Holly Jolly, Electric Christmas Parade sponsored by The Downtown Paris Association (DPA).

“Winners in each age group will receive a huge basket of fun art supplies including colored markers, crayons, drawing pads, construction paper, paints, modeling clay, sweet treats and more,” said Brenda Evans of K & B Supplies for Success. Each basket has a retail value of $75.

Coloring sheets are available downtown at K & B, The Toggery at Bo & Co. Boutique, Jack’s Java or online at VisitDowntownParis.com. The contest is sponsored by K & B, The Peddler Advantage and Alive Magazine.

The contest is divided into two age groups with a coloring page for kindergarten-second graders and a different page for third-fifth graders. Coloring sheets should be returned to the locations above before 5 pm on Saturday, December 14, the day of Santa’s Christmas Festival and Holly Jolly Electric Christmas Parade. Winners will be contacted by the DPA the following week.

Local Henry County High School art students created and submitted a record number of coloring sheets. A panel of judges chose two sketches, one for each age group. “I’m so proud of Sierra Conn, who’s sketch was chosen for the younger children’s coloring page, and Madeline McCarty, whose sketch was chosen for the older age group,” said HCHS Art Instructor Greg Chandler.

“Sierra drew a Christmas stocking that is just perfect for the younger set,” Chandler said. A second year art student at HCHS, she has enjoyed art as a hobby since she was young, and said she appreciated the opportunity to share her work with the community’s children.

Madeline McCarty is a tenth grade, art II student. “Her winning entry for the older children was a detailed scene of Christmas on the courthouse lawn,” he said. McCarty said she enjoys art because “it’s a special form of creativity that allows you to express yourself in multiple ways.”

After the coloring sheets are judged, the folks at K & B will post as many entrees as possible in their front window. “We want Santa to see them when he is in Downtown Paris on weekends through December 22,” Evans said.
