Union City, Tenn.—Union City was festive Thursday night with some 150 entries for this year’s Christmas parade. The 2019 Pride of Obion County Sacchi Doss and Union City Elementary kindergarten student Sophia Hernandez lit the Christmas tree and local children’s choirs filled the air with Christmas carols.
Among the entries in this year’s parade was the controversial “Love Everybody” float which reportedly caused the town of Troy to earlier cancel its parade after threats were made. Dwight Tittle of Troy came up with the idea for the float—which includes a rainbow flag—based on the Biblical passage in 1 John 4:7-8.
Tittle said at the time, “All that says is we’re just to love everybody.” He said the float’s message is to support all those who feel like they don’t belong.
