Mayfield, Ky.–The two suspects shot during a home invasion in Graves County early Tuesday morning are still hospitalized and the homeowner has been arrested on charges of trafficking with a firearm enhancement and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The homeowner, Anthony Dominique Crittendon of 561 Tom Drive, is being held in the Graves Co. Jail.
Graves County Sheriff Jon Hayden said the suspects’ locations and conditions are being monitored by sheriff’s investigators. Both suffered life-threatening injuries.
The incident began when a 911 call was received at 12:04 AM from 561 Tom Drive. The caller (also the homeowner) said there had been a shooting at his home and that subjects had attempted to rob him.
Deputies and KSP troopers responded to the residence, with Deputy Brandon Awbery arriving in about three minutes.
According to the press release, officers found one man shot multiple times and the homeowner reported that a woman had knocked on his door around midnight. After answering the door, she asked to use his phone. As the resident stated that he would go get his phone, two masked men forced the door open armed with assault style looking weapons. They assaulted the resident multiple times by hitting him with the rifles and demanded to know where the money was. The female was not seen again.
They two suspects reportedly ransacked the home, and at some point, the resident was able to get to a semi-automatic pistol that he had hidden. He then began shooting at both of the men firing multiple gunshots, hitting both of the men. One of the suspects fled from the home, while the other collapsed inside the home, but remained conscious.
The injured suspect was transported to an out of town hospital by ambulance with life threatening injuries.
Minutes after receiving the initial 911 call, another 911 call was received from an unknown woman about a second man with multiple gunshot wounds who had been dropped off at the Pocket Shell gas station on 6th Street in Mayfield. He was transported by ambulance to an out of town hospital with life threatening injuries.
A search warrant was obtained to search the residence on Tom Drive to recover any evidence and to process the scene of the reported home invasion and shooting.
During a search of the residence by sheriff’s detectives, deputies, and Kentucky State Police Troopers, searches and approximately $8,000 dollars in small bills were recovered, just under two pounds of marijuana, electronic scales, packaging material, and other related items were seized. The marijuana reportedly had been found by the suspects during the home invasion and had been placed in a bag along with other drug related items that the suspects had planned on taking. Detectives also recovered the masks that both suspects were wearing upon entering the home.
Multiple spent shell casings, and firearms were seized as part if the investigation from both the homeowner and the wounded suspect.
Later on Monday at approximately 2PM, the homeowner was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Marijuana Over 8 ounces with a Firearm Enhancement, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was lodged at the Graves County Jail.
The names of the suspects that were shot are not being released at this time.
The investigation is continuing and more arrests and charges are expected.
