Union City, Tenn.–Approximately 140 first-grade students at Union City Elementary School performed their fall musical program “Spooky Night” three times on Tuesday in the school gymnasium.
The musical program, directed by UCES music teacher Katie Tohn, featured many “not spooky” characters – including vampires that couldn’t and didn’t scare and skeletons that loved to shake.
The students had practiced diligently for several weeks, working on beat and rhythm, and incorporating fun ways to show off their musical skills.
Boomwackers were used by students as instruments. Boomwackers are plastic tubes cut into different lengths to match pitches.
Family members and other UCES classes filled the gym and enjoyed the performance in two shows during the school day and another at night.
The program ended with the students leading the crowds in the school alma mater.
