Henry Co. GOP Comes Out Strong For Hoover At Local Caucus

By Shannon McFarlin News Director
Paris, Tenn.–At Thursday night’s Republican caucus, Henry County’s delegates and alternates came out strongly for Candidate Vicki Hoover of Paris for the 24th District Chancellor position.
The Henry County GOP held a caucus at the Paris Civic Center to select delegates from the county who will be attending the Chancellor caucus in November.
There was a packed house for the caucus, with some 110 persons expressing their desire to be one of the 95 delegates for which Henry County is eligible or one of the alternates.
Three candidates appeared at the caucus for the position: Paris Attorney Vicki Hoover, Assistant District Attorney Vance Dennis of Savannah and McKenzie Attorney Brent Bradberry.
Tennessee Republican Party Chair Scott Golden presided over the delegate selection process of the caucus noting that at the November convention, delegates can select the three candidates or nominate others from the floor.
“It’s great to be electing Republicans”, he said. “We have great choices”. He noted the same process will occur in all five counties represented by the 24th District chancery court: Henry, Carroll, Benton, Decatur and Hardin.

All three gave presentations voicing reasons for their interest in the position.
Hoover told the crowd she wants to see “someone local as our Chancellor”, noting the importance of the Chancellor position which she said deals with divorces, adoptions, child custody cases and more. “It’s a very serious position and it’s one of the hardest courts to be in,” she said. “It’s very serious who we put on this bench. I work hard and I want to make a difference. We have to have someone who makes a difference in this position.”
Dennis discussed his private practice with former Chancellor Carma Dennis McGee and his current position as Assistant District Attorney working with DA Matt Stowe. “I’ve worked with every area of the law and I’d very much like to be your Chancellor.”
Bradberry noted his background working in the furniture manufacturing business in McKenzie for many years before going to law school at age 40. He said his experience in the business world was as important, if not more so, than his experience as an attorney. “I would be honored if you consider me for the position,” he said.
When asked by Golden to show which candidate they preferred, everyone stood for Hoover.
This vacancy was created by the appointment and confirmation of Judge Carma Dennis McGee to the Court of Appeals, Western Section. McGee announced her resignation in April to accept the Court of Appeals position.
After an interview process earlier this year, Governor Bill Lee appointed Huntingdon Attorney Jennifer King to the Chancellor position. King resigned after two weeks amid controversy over the caucus process and allegations by King of ‘meddling’ in the election process by local and area GOP officials.
