Paris, Tenn.–Boy Scouts from Troop 28 and Cub Scouts from Pack 28 in Henry County conducted a flag retirement ceremony Monday night at the American Legion Post on Antioch Rd.
Matt Hayes of Troop 28 said, “The US Flag Code says that when a flag is no longer ‘a fitting emblem for display’, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. That was what we did.”
Hayes said there are a number of collection boxes made from repurposed newspaper racks around town that people can drop worn flags in “and when those containers are full we collect them for retirement. The racks were repurposed by two different scouts from Troop 28 for their Eagle Projects in recent years, most recently by Justin Bond.”
