Couple Charged After Boy Found On Highway

Paris, Tenn.–A Paris couple were arrested Sunday morning by Henry County Sheriff’s deputies on child abuse and neglect charges after a five-year-old boy in their care was found walking in a ditch along Hwy. 69S wearing only his underwear.
Brandi N. Mayo, age 32, of 1550 Hwy. 69S, and Tramaine Terell Tidwell, age 31, of 3040 Hwy. 54, were placed under arrest at the residence and have been booked on $20,000 bonds each.
The Department of Children’s Services is investigating and has placed the children in the home with another family member in the meantime.
According to the police report, the sheriff’s office received a 911 call from the person who found the boy about a half mile from his home. The caller said the boy showed the caller where he lived and the caller told dispatch they would stay with the boy by the house until deputies arrived.
The child told Deputy Kyle Waldron he woke up and no one was in the house so he was trying to walk into town to find his mother. A two-year-old child was found sleeping in the house, but no adults were on the scene.
When Mayo was found, she told deputies she left the child with Tidwell while she went to the store. Tidwell said an aunt was supposed to babysit while he went to the store. The aunt told deputies she had not been contacted to babysit.
