Belew Speaks At Opioid Summit In Nashville

Nashville, Tenn.—Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew appeared on a panel Monday in Nashville with state law enforcement officials and health care providers that are looking at Tennessee’s opioid crisis.
Belew noted he drove two hours to share what he and other Henry County law enforcement officers have seen first-hand with dangerous drugs like fentanyl. Belew told WENK/WTPR he appeared to speak about the opioid crisis enveloping west Tennessee and what it looks like from the law enforcement perspective.
Belew said a NARCAN training session will be held Thursday, October 10, at the Henry County 911 building. The training session is set for 6 p.m. and is open to the public. It is sponsored by the sheriff’s office, Henry County Prevention Coalition and West Tennessee Overdose Specialists.
According to WKRN-TV, Belew spoke about his officers being the first defense of a drug overdose by carrying NARCAN, the life-saving antidote to opioid overdoses.
“We are doing a lot of things—preventative things like training all our deputies on NARCAN. We carry two dosages of NARCAN on us—on our vests,” Belew said. “The crazy thing about it is people know the dangers of it but they are still doing it.”
