Mayfield, Ky.–A Mayfield man is in the Graves County Jail on a long list of charges after engaging officers in a lengthy high-speed pursuit and striking a McCracken Co. detective with his car. Two vehicles, including that of Sheriff Jon Hayden, were disabled during the pursuit.
Jerrod Dale, age 32, is charged with two counts trafficking meth, fleeing and evading, first degree assault on a police officer, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, wanton endangerment, and tampering with evidence.
Sheriff Hayden said Dale is known to investigators has an extensive felony criminal history for drug trafficking in our area.
On Sunday evening, Graves Sheriff’s detectives were working in conjunction with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Departments Drug Enforcement Unit, the Mayfield Police Department, and the DEA on an active Methamphetamine trafficking investigation involving a drug suspect that reportedly has been selling large quantities of Methamphetamine in and around the Graves County area.
At 8:15 p.m., during the investigation, detectives pulled into the parking lot of a business on East Broadway in an attempt to arrest the suspect for the sale of crystal methamphetamine.
According to the press release, two McCracken detectives exited their vehicle as the suspect started towards his vehicle, a white Dodge Ram full-size pickup. Other marked and unmarked police vehicles also pulled into the parking lot.
The suspect was able to get into his vehicle and took off striking one of the McCracken Sheriff’s detectives, knocking him to the ground causing scuffing and bruising.
The suspect then made a left turn onto East Broadway at high speeds. Once reaching the Dick Castleman pass the suspect made a right turn. Sheriff Jon Hayden pitted the suspect vehicle attempting to disable it. Another police vehicle also struck the suspects vehicle, and were able to briefly disable it. Seconds later the suspect managed to back out and proceeded southbound and onto KY Hwy 97. During the pursuit while southbound in Ky Hwy 97, items were observed being thrown out of the vehicle. The pursuit went onto Scott Road, to Ky Hwy 339, and back onto Ky Hwy 303 Northbound. Contact between the suspect and police vehicle was made numerous times in attempts to disable the vehicle. Spike strips were deployed at several times during the attempted apprehension.
Two sheriffs’ vehicles were disabled during the pursuit in the area of Ky Hwy 303, Sheriff Hayden’s and Det. Amberg’s.
The pursuit continued on numerous back roads in that area and eventually ended back up in the city of Mayfield.
Eventually, the suspect’s vehicle was successfully spike striped at the intersection of 15 Street and Broadway. The suspect ran from his vehicle but was apprehended in a yard near St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was arrested.
Sheriff’s deputies, and KSP Troopers went back and traced the pursuit route searching for items that had been thrown by the suspect. On Ky Hwy 97 near Burls Wrecker Service, detectives and troopers recovered approximately 3 ounces of Crystal Meth in the road ditch.
A search of the suspects residence located at 2237 St. Rt. 303 was conducted at just after midnight on Monday morning.
Approximately eight (8) ounces of crystal Methamphetamine was located in the residence, a semi-automatic pistol, and other items.
According to the press release, this suspect has an extensive criminal history with felony convictions for Trafficking in a 1st Degree Controlled Substance in 2008 and received a 5 year prison sentence, Trafficking in a 1st Degree Controlled Substance in 2011 and received a 10 year prison sentence, Trafficking in a 1st Degree Controlled Substance in 2012 and received a 10 year prison sentence, Tampering with Physical Evidence in 2007, Fleeing or Evading in 2007, 2008, and 2016, 1st Degree Criminal Trespass in 2016, Two assault convictions, Possession of Cocaine and Trafficking in Marijuana in 2005.
This drug investigation is continuing. The street value of the seized has an estimated street value of $7,000.
The suspect was lodged at the Graves County Jail.
The Graves and McCracken Sheriffs Offices, Mayfield Police Department, Kentucky State Police, and the DEA all worked together during this investigation.
